Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round 20

Round 20 of the Betfred Championship provided some huge moments this past weekend.

The action got underway on Friday evening at Olympic Legacy Park, where Sheffield Eagles welcomed the Batley Bulldogs.

Luke Hooley scored a hat-trick in a stand out performance, with the Bulldogs running out 24-14 victors.

Arguably the result of the weekend came on Saturday, as York Knights recorded their first win in France since 2011 as they defeated Toulouse.

Despite conceding first, the Knights fired back through Joe Brown and Nikau Williams, plus a Will Dagger penalty gave them a 14-6 lead at the break.

Dagger was on the scoresheet again as he picked up a loose ball before racing clear to score.

Olympique hit back, but it was not enough as York left France with a 20-12 success.

On Sunday, Ben Reynolds’ late penalty saw Featherstone Rovers snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Bradford had a half-time lead with ex Hull FC duo, Jayden Okunbor and Franklin Pele scoring with the latter touching down twice in the first half.

With the scores locked together heading towards the end of the contest, Jordan Lilley produced a drop goal which at the time put Bradford ahead, however, the late penalty saw Featherstone leave with a 22-21 win.

Wakefield Trinity took a step closer to the Championship title with a home victory against Widnes. Trinity scored six tries in the 36-12 success.

Whitehaven scored a late try to get a much needed success at home to Doncaster. Jake Maizen’s last-minute score saw them run out 28-24. After the game, the club announced that Jonty Gorley would be leaving Whitehaven with immediate effect.

Fellow Cumbrian side, Barrow Raiders also got a much needed success. The Raiders won 31-24 away at Dewsbury Rams which keeps their hopes of staying in the division alive.

Swinton, another side towards the bottom of the table, also got two crucial Betfred Championship points. The Lions ran in four tries at Heywood Road to defeat Halifax Panthers 20-6.
